Florence Hawkins lives and works in London since 1996. She graduated with a Maitrise d’Histoire de l’Art from the Université de Bourgogne in France and studied at the International Center of Photography in New York.
In the last few years she developed her long standing interest for pattern and textile design.
In June 2007, she graduated with a Foundation Degree in Surface Design at the London College of Communication where she learnt to apply her designs to wallpaper, textile and bone china using traditional methods of screen-printing and digital technologies. Her final year work placement with Neisha Crosland gave her a valuable insight into the design industry and informed her current practice.
‘My aim is to create work that is simple, accessible and playful. I like working with natural textile and vintage and recycle materials. I get inspired by forms found in nature and by the environment around me. My latest designs were influenced by found French newspaper cutting from 1968 events.’
